>> "The critical factor is not the lethality of the firearm, but the helplesness of the victims and the amount of time before an armed response"

This is the key point. Also, anti-gunners and gun owners who should know better seem to think that "obsolete" manual repeating firearms are less lethal than self-loaders. Look at Stang Shooting in Norway (Stangskyting) for an example of how wrong that is:

I'd like to read the full observation by Kostos Moros that you failed to effectively link, thanks. =)

The *effective* part here is key, I dunno how many of that 10% of concealed carriers train effectively and regularly but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was less than half

Figure on 2.5% of concealed carriers practice regularly. One video has a LEO taking out one of the evildoer shooters at about 25-30 meters. Getting carriers to practice until they can make a shot at that range consistently is a struggle.

Yeah that distance from a pistol would be a stretch for most people even on a flat range with all the time in the world. Training is so important.

Elisjsha Dicken hit 8 of 10 shots at round abouts 40 yards to stop a mall mass shooting, reportedly without any sort of focused practice.

I'm not saying don't practice, but also, any 2-way shooting range is better than a 1-way shooting range when you're downrange.
